The Pass The Popcorn Filming Terms

Cool Boss: A costume consisting of a shirt, tie and jeans in a sketch.

Wasting Tape: Said if the Cameraman is continuing to record long after the take to get a blooper or random conversation. Usually accompanied by the ‘wasting tape dance.’

 

Acto: Action.

Amanda: Default name given to Pass the Popcorn secretary. Only ever heard from or spoken to on the intercom.

Chair Boom: Propping the boom up against an object, usually two chairs. Used if there is not enough human crew members. Also used ‘Table Boom’ or ‘Gym Boom.’

Dream Factory: Name given to the garage studio.

Fridge off. Lights on: A term used when filming is about to begin. Usually applies to anything shot in the garage where it is necessary to turn the fridge on and off.

Garthed It: Describes any cast member who forgets their lines and stares blankly into the camera. References Garth Algar from Wayne’s World and his attempt to host the show by himself.

God: Head of TVS.

Key to the Scene: “You’re the key to this scene.” A line given in motivation to a cast member who wants to finish filming quickly.

Key to the Season: “You’re the key to season.” Used in the same fashion as ‘key the scene’ but aimed at motivating a cast member to turn up to filming.

Michelle: A default female name or a name given to any male attempting a female voice when standing in for someone at a read through.

‘Mo Dad: Term used to describe someone from the cast playing older than everyone else. eg a parent, even though all cast members are roughly the same age. Usually a moustache sells it.

Line Bitch: Anyone on set who reads all the other parts of the script off camera to cue those on camera.

Praction: Practice action. Usually a run through without the script.

Props Department: Refers to Dan Stawanski’s garage or Pat Williamson’s shed where anything used for the show is stored.

Reacko: Getting a reaction shot.

Take It Off Unrecord: Direction to hit the record button on the camera.

Trusty: Any tripod shot without a cameraman. Most commonly used when Dan Auld is filming anything in Sydney. If used in conjunction with ‘chair boom’ times are desperate.

Unrecord: Stop filming.

Vince McMahon School of Acting: A direction used to any cast member overacting a facial expression or going over the top with their lines. Makes reference to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and his in ring acting style.

Williamson Casting Agency: Anyone who isn’t usually a regular cast member but happen to be at Pat’s house when we need an extra thereby being asked to appear in the sketch.

You’re going to Disneyland: Direction to any cast member needed to act really excited.
